The US Congress banned the supply of American weapons to the nationalist battalion Azov, which is part of the structure of the National Guard of Ukraine.
The corresponding amendment is included in the 2232-page draft federal budget bill that was adopted last week. This is reported by the newspaper The Hill, specializing in the work of the Congress.
"The idea of ??superiority of the white race and neo-Nazism is unacceptable, there is no place for them in our world ... I am very glad that the recently adopted law will make it impossible for US assistance by weapons or instructors of the Azov neo-Nazi battalion," said California spokesman Rohit Hanna, one of the most ardent opponents of the supply of lethal weapons to Ukraine. The publication notes that the draft laws on the budget, adopted by the House of Representatives for the past three years, banned the transfer of American assistance to the Azov battalion, but this provision was excluded every time before the document was approved in the final version. And this year the bill on expenditures of $ 1.3 billion, signed last week, stipulates that "the funds allocated in accordance with this law can not be used for the transfer of weapons, training or other assistance to the Azov battalion," it says in publication. The author reminds that the Americans help and train Ukrainian soldiers who are fighting pro-Russian separatists since 2014, and recently in this aid Washington included weapons. The adopted budget provides for the allocation of $ 620.7 million for Kiev, including $ 420.
7 million from the Department of State for foreign operations, and $ 200 million from the Pentagon, the newspaper said.. The article notes that the supporters of ultra-right views and radicals are openly accepted into the ranks of Azov, and they then seep into the structure of the National Guard. Previously, Western publications wrote that among "Azov" there are mercenaries from Great Britain, Germany and other "like-minded" Ukrainian ura-patriots with Nazi attributes.
