As noted in the White House press secretary's statement, the decision was made in response to Russia's use of chemical weapons in the territory of the United Kingdom. According to the US authorities, the expulsion of Russian diplomats will make the situation in the country more secure, since Russia can not spy on Americans and conduct secret operations that threaten the national security of the States. The White House stressed that they are ready to improve relations with Russia, but this can only happen after a change in the policy of the government of the Russian Federation. In total, 60 Russians will be expelled from the United States:
48 embassy employees and 12 - United Nations organizations. Diplomats and their families were given seven days to leave the territory of the United States.
