The head of the Left Party faction in the Quakenbruck parliament, Andreas Maurer, called absurd the demand of the Ukrainian ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany Andrei Melnik to forbid the citizens of Germany to come to the Crimea. "Ambassador Melnyk interferes in the internal affairs of Germany," Maurer told RIA Novosti news agency.. The politician added that neither the German chancellor, nor the government, nor the foreign minister can forbid German citizens to go anywhere and, moreover, will not ask permission from the authorities of Ukraine.

Moreover, Maurer himself visited the Crimea eight times after his accession to the Russian Federation, including, he was an international observer at the first presidential elections in the peninsula. The deputy also plans to spend his summer vacation together with his family in the Crimea. According to Maurer, Germany will not give an official response to the statement of the Ukrainian ambassador. He added that in April a delegation consisting of members of the Bundestag, land and regional parliaments will travel to Crimea, and in September a delegation of German youth will leave for the peninsula.
