The delegation of Ukraine to the UN demands to reform the Security Council and the first thing to change the procedure for the use of the veto power. Such a proposal was made at the intergovernmental negotiations on the reform of the world organization. Members of the Ukrainian delegation say that in the last two years, when their country was a member of the Security Council, they have witnessed institutional shortcomings in the work of the UN body, including numerous cases of abuse of the veto, inconclusive statements and proposals, and negotiations for the sake of negotiations.

"With such an attitude, we will never even come to negotiations on the text, because there will always be some kind of detailing, or aspect, or procedural problem that needs clarification and coordination," the Ukrainian delegation said in a statement quoted by Ukrinform ".

All the permanent members of the UN Security Council have the right of veto, which makes it possible to block any resolution: Russia, the United States, China, France and the United Kingdom. In Kiev, it was repeatedly called upon to deprive this right of Russia, especially Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin, who likes to express himself on this topic.

The need for reform of the UN has long been ripe, almost all. President of the United States Donald Trump, for example, as one of the main directions of the reform calls the change in the principles of financing the organization.
