Moldovan President Igor Dodon believes that along with the official flag, the country should also have the historical banner of Stefan the Great - the prince of the Moldavian principality. This he wrote today in his Facebook. The head of state said that the corresponding "pro-Moldovan initiative" would soon be introduced into parliament. "This is a bill that provides for the legalization of the historical banner of Moldova as a national state symbol. The current flag remains unchanged, retaining its importance as the official flag of the Republic of Moldova, "- wrote Dodon. The President expressed confidence that the majority of deputies will support the idea of ??making the banner of Stefan the Great an additional symbol of modern Moldova. According to him, "historical symbols, including the historical banner, are officially approved in Estonia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Russia, Finland, Norway and other countries.. "Now the national flag of Moldova is a tricolor with vertically arranged blue, yellow and red stripes. In the center on the yellow strip the state emblem of the country is depicted. Stefan III the Great (Stefan cel Mare) - one of the most prominent rulers of the Moldavian principality, he ruled the country from 1475 to 1504. Thanks to his generals and diplomatic talents, the Moldavian principality not only preserved its independence, but also became a significant political force in Eastern Europe.

In 2018, he was declared the year of Stefan the Great in the Republic. Meanwhile, now the country is ripening separatist sentiments. So, in January, local councils in seven villages of Moldova adopted "declarations of unification with Romania". The campaign to sign this document was organized by the civil platform Actiunea-2012.

These actions are timed to the 100th anniversary of the Great Association, which supporters of accession to Romania also celebrate this year.

Earlier on Friday, February 2, Dodon on the Web spoke harshly on this topic. "Union with Romania implies civil war. We, the statesmen, will not allow anyone to liquidate the Republic of Moldova ".

In his opinion, the separatist steps are committed by "some forces that understand that they lose the election, deliberately develop this scenario and want to destabilize the situation, but they will not do anything".
