Six countries of the Balkan Peninsula will become full members of the European Union by 2025. The document announcing this should be published by the European Commission early next week, reports the Financial Times.. According to the publication, Brussels is in a hurry to expand its ranks for two reasons - due to the growing flow of migrants and due to the growing influence of Russia on the countries of the region. The Balkan states in question are Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina - are already very closely integrated into the life of the EU. But now Brussels literally needs them. Since the Balkans is the main route for migrants from North Africa and the Middle East to Europe. Now these countries do not have many incentives to prevent refugees from making their way to the Old World. As soon as they assume all the rights and duties of the EU members, the conversation will be short: they will be determined by quotas, according to which tens of thousands of migrants will settle on their territory perfectly legally, in the same place EU forces will be able to establish barrier cordons to uncontrolled flows of illegal immigrants. There is one more reason that forces Brussels to force events.
In the Balkan countries there are historically many allies of Russia.
The EU fears that Moscow will use its influence and get even closer to the borders of the European Union. However, not everyone in Europe is ready to expand. Too many problems are being delivered by Greece with its economic crisis, Poland, Hungary. The Balkan countries are even more unstable and contradictory. In addition, for example, a long-standing member of the EU, Spain does not recognize the independence of Kosovo, so it will not be able to support the emergence of such an EU member.
