Carles Puigdemont, who fled Catalonia to Brussels a week ago, surrendered to the local police along with four associates - members of the government (the Catalan government).
"This morning five people wanted by Spain are imprisoned," a spokesman for the Brussels prosecutor's office said at a press conference.
Belgian judge within 24 hours will decide on the arrest of Puchdemon and his associates. Defense policy has already warned that it will appeal its extradition to the Spanish authorities.
On Friday, November 3, the Spanish National Court of Justice decided to issue an arrest warrant for the deported head of Catalonia and four former members of the government who had fled the country and left for Belgium.
