Ukraine on Wednesday, June 28, celebrates Constitution Day.
The network recalls the historic moment - the adoption of the Basic Law of Ukraine.
Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine accepted after long debates and debates in the morning of June 28, 1996. At that time, the parliamentarians, with 315 votes, supported the document that replaced the Constitution of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, adopted in 1978.
Let's note that the Constitution became the prototype of the Basic Law, which was signed on June 8, 1995 by the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma and the Speaker of the Rada Alexander Moroz.
Also, a parliamentary commission was created to write the Constitution, it was headed by MP Mikhail Sirota.
Initially, the draft document included the president's remarks and disputed articles about the country's symbols - the coat of arms and the flag, as well as the only state Ukrainian language and the right of private property. The Communists demanded that the Russian language be approved by the second state.
On the day of adoption of the Constitution in the Parliament the anthem of Ukraine was sounded for the first time, a blue-yellow state flag was brought into the hall.
Let's note, the Rada officially announced the adoption of the Basic Law of Ukraine on the last day of the fifth session of the second convocation - July 12, 1996.
The Constitution Day of Ukraine is the only holiday mentioned in the Basic Law.
"The day of adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine is a state holiday - the Day of the Constitution of Ukraine," reads Article 161.
