In the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, representatives of the European People's Party held a secret ballot (with the help of bulletins) about distrust of their protege, PACE President Pedro Agramunt.

The results of the voting were announced in Strasbourg at a closed meeting of the EPP, "Ukrainskaya Pravda".

The president of the group Axel Fischer said that 38 deputies supported statements of distrust to the PACE president, 26 deputies opposed, two more ballots were spoiled.

Agramunt himself was absent from the meeting of his own political group. Prior to that, he also avoided communication with the press.

In the near future, the plenary session of the assembly should begin.

As reported by the "Observer", former President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Pedro Agramunt was suspended from performing duties of conducting the session after the scandal because of his visit to Syria together with the deputies of the Russian State Duma. At the same time, Agramunt said that he does not intend to resign.

Now the position of the PACE president is the quota of the group of the European People's Party, from which, in fact, Agramunt. For each group, the quota is retained for two years, and then transferred to the next group.

The President of the Assembly is elected for a period of one year with the possibility of re-election for one more term, which was the case with Agramunt, when on January 23 his term was extended to the end of January 2018.

Therefore, before the elections that will take place at the beginning of next year, the PACE vice-presidents from the EPP can apply for the post of acting president of the Assembly, among them there is a representative of Ukraine.
