The law obliging the national TV channels to broadcast at least 75% of the air in the state language was published in the official newspaper of the Verkhovna Rada "Golos Ukrainy" on Tuesday, June 13, and thus comes into force four months after the publication - October 13.

According to the document, in the total weekly volume of broadcasting of television and radio organizations that broadcast or multichannel (digital) broadcasting using a radio frequency resource, transmissions, films and news made in the state language should be at least 75% of the total transmission time and films in each of the gaps Time between 7:00 and 18:00, and between 18:00 and 22:00.

At the same time, local TV and radio companies must broadcast at least 60% of the air in Ukrainian. Films and broadcasts, which are not allowed in Ukrainian, are subtitled in the state language.

The transfer is considered to be performed in Ukrainian, if all the speeches (remarks) of the announcers are transmitted in Ukrainian. It is allowed to use other languages ??without duplication and scoring for reporting from the scene (except for the language and replicas of reporters), comments from the guests of the programs, musical clips that contain textual accompaniment, and in works in the languages ??

of indigenous peoples of Ukraine.

For non-fulfillment of the above requirements, the broadcasting company pays a penalty in the amount of 5% of the total amount of the license fee.

As reported by the "Observer", on May 23 the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading a bill on the introduction of language quotas on Ukrainian television. On June 6, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed the law.
