Ukraine will not be able to quickly introduce a visa regime with Russia, since the two countries still have an Agreement on visa-free border crossing. Kiev will need six months to break this agreement with Moscow.

This was stated in an exclusive commentary to the "Observer" by the diplomat, the head of the board of the State Enterprise "European Telecommunications of Ukraine" Vadim Trykhan.

According to him, for the termination of the visa-free travel agreement, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry should, through diplomatic channels, notify the Russian side within six months.

"If today there is a note on Ukraine's intention to break this Agreement, then in six months it will cease to be in effect and a visa regime will be introduced in relations with Russia," the expert explained..

Trukhan also doubts the readiness of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to this turn of events. He recalled that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov threatened Ukraine with retaliatory measures.

"In order to serve all citizens who reside on the territory of the Russian Federation or travel from Ukraine to Russia and back, we need a large number of employees of the consular service," the diplomat said..

"Where to get upscale consular workers in a few months, I imagine it is difficult," he added..

Trukhan also stressed that Ukraine is not ready for a visa regime with the Russian Federation. This topic, he said, is very sensitive for millions of Ukrainians "who are constantly in Russia or go there".

As reported by "Observer", the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin announced the readiness of his department to implement the introduction of the visa regime with Russia.
