The ban of Russian social networks and other software products in Ukraine was a compulsory step, as Russian special services introduced their spyware and viruses into various types of Ukrainian strategic networks.

This is written by the American edition of the Wall Street Journal, loyal to the Republican Party, reports ZN. Ua.

At the same time, American experts on cybersecurity for their part, add that social networks pose an even greater danger by becoming launching sites for hacker attacks.

According to experts, social networks allow hackers to collect personal data about people who are going to attack, and also as a platform for hosting malware.

"In Ukraine, such attacks could have a deadly nature," the article stresses.

After Russia unleashed a war in the Donbas, an American cyber security company CrowdStrike discovered that Russian hackers associated with the APT 28 group distributed through the "Vkontakte" virus for the application for Android.

A harmful program penetrated the software for Ukrainian artillerymen, which was developed by Yaroslav Sherstyuk. The program allowed to calculate data for the guidance of Ukrainian howitzers. However, the Russian virus allowed to break the program and determine the location of Ukrainian artillery, so that later Russian forces could strike at them.

The publication writes that last year Russian hackers tried even to disable the electrical substation in Kiev.

Another cyber-spy group from Russia Sandworm made an attack on the power grid in Western Ukraine. About this publication told the analyst of the company FireEye John Haltqvist.

"Cases in Ukraine provide an opportunity to obtain information about the enemy before he arranges new attacks in the West," said the American expert.

According to him, the malicious code Sandworm, which was discovered in Ukraine, was seen in the US power network.

As reported by the "Observer", earlier experts called the main "pros" and "against" the blocking of Russian social networks.
