Ukraine has no right to impose restrictions on the citizens of the country living in the occupied territories; In exceptional cases Crimeans can be allowed to have two passports.
This opinion was expressed to the "Observer" by the Russian opposition politician Konstantin Borovoi.
Answering the question whether citizens of Ukraine living on the territory of the annexed Crimea can use the visa-free regime with the European Union granted to Ukraine, the politician said: "Residents of Ukraine who want to be citizens of Ukraine have the right to do so. Let make out biometric passports, let they go ".
In this context, Borovoy noted: "We should not impose restrictions on the citizens of Ukraine due to the fact that they are in the occupied territory. We do not live under Stalin, do we? When all who found themselves in the occupied territory were recognized as enemies of the people. We need to help them, we need to take care of them, we must apply the law on the exclusion of dual citizenship, protect them ".
The politician also admitted that for people forced to "somehow live and somehow earn" in the occupied territories, one could make exceptions with regard to dual citizenship, "because for them it is a matter of survival". "Non-acceptance of the second citizenship means disloyalty to the invaders. This is how it should be formulated:
if it is necessary for the survival of a person, if this is not his belief, "the politician explained..
"You can fight with the aggressor, but not with your own citizens who are in the occupied territory. This is contrary to all norms of human rights, "he stressed..
As the "Observer" wrote, earlier Konstantin Borovoi called "an elegant crime" the proposal of Russian politician Grigory Yavlinsky on organizing an international conference and holding a referendum in the annexed Crimea.
