The level of trust between Russia and NATO has fallen to an extremely low level. This was announced by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu at the Sixth Moscow Conference on International Security. Opened on Wednesday, April 26 in Moscow. At the same time, the minister noted, NATO members do not aspire to raise this level.

The decision of NATO to create in northern Norway, in the immediate vicinity of the Russian territory a polygon for the deployment of military contingents of the alliance members, is seen in Moscow as a demonstration of NATO's power promotion of its interests. And this is by no means the only manifestation of the aggressive attitude of the North Atlantic military bloc. In particular, his actions in the Baltics, the Balkans, the Arctic do not contribute to establishing a dialogue and strengthening mutual trust.

"Activities within the framework of NATO's air police activities to control the airspace of the Baltic states have actually become part of the so-called restricted access zone, covering the Kaliningrad region and the eastern part of the Baltic Sea," Shoigu. "We regret that the initiative of Finland on flights of military aviation over the Baltic with transponders included, supported by the Russian president, was ignored by NATO," the minister said..

Against this backdrop, the agreements between the Russian Federation and NATO on the prevention of incidents in the air. As experience shows, the military ambitions of the West sometimes override common sense and then any form of deterrence can play a positive role.

The Russian Defense Minister recalled the missile attack that the US military inflicted on April 7 at the Shirat government airbase in Homs province. This created a direct threat to Russian servicemen in the Arab Republic at the request of Damascus. Now Moscow is forced to take additional measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation in Syria, Shoigu said..

At the same time, the head of the Defense Ministry insists that for a speedy settlement of the situation in Syria, concerted actions of all interested parties are needed, not only in the military sphere. It is necessary to create an international coalition for the demining of the territory of the republic, the minister believes, as well as to develop a comprehensive strategy for actions in the areas of Syria exempted from terrorists.

"Its main elements should be the fight against spreading the ideology of the IG, developing a new constitution for the country, meeting the needs of the people through humanitarian support and restoring economic life, demining the territory," believes Shoigu. In his opinion, this is much more productive and useful for everyone than the cultivation of "anti-Russian phobias" and the fomenting of fear among citizens of Western countries over a fictitious threat from the East.
