Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov harshly commented on the blocking of the proposal by Russia and Iran to appoint a new investigation of the chemical industry in Syria. Let me remind you that the United States, Britain, France and a number of other countries opposed the resolution submitted to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
"Undoubtedly, the actions of the US and its Western allies, which blocked the direction of inspectors in order to establish the truth on the site of the incident, are very disturbing. Because behind them is an attempt to find an excuse not to comply with the UN Security Council resolution on a political settlement, and to shift the attention of the world community to the creation of prerequisites to take the course to change the regime, "said Sergei Lavrov.
As the representative of the British delegation to the OPCW noted in his "tweet", the Russian-Ivanskaya resolution was rejected because it "tried to undermine the work of the fact-finding mission".
Earlier, Moscow blocked a draft resolution of the United States, Britain and France on the chemo in the UN. According to the Russian side, the document categorically recognizes Bashar Assad as the sole culprit of the tragedy. And this still needs to be proved. Representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova called the project "anti-Syrian" and "categorically unacceptable".

As stressed by the US permanent representative to the United Nations Nikki Haley, she only "begs from Assad to do what he has long had to do". Namely: to provide information on all flights of the Syrian Air Force on the day of the incident (including on-board magazines), recording of pilot talks, and most importantly, the names of the pilots who ascended the sky on April 4.
It's no secret that during the war the disclosure of the names of the pilots can cost them their lives. Therefore, Bashar Assad is unlikely to do this. But outraged by Damascus and Moscow, it's probably not even this.
According to the newspaper The New York Times, referring to its own source, the draft resolution considered by the UN states that a group of experts from the OPCW, with the approval of the Security Council of the organization, has already visited Khan-Sheikhun. Red. ) And recognized Assad as guilty of using chemical weapons.
However, the evidence that satisfied Moscow, the United States and its allies never submitted. As Sergey Lavrov stressed, the statements of London and Paris that their experts received samples from the scene of the incident are not backed up by answers to Russia's questions "where did these samples come from, who took them, when they were delivered". Haley only stated from the UN rostrum that the Pentagon has evidence proving involvement in the Assad's. But what and whose - and did not specify. But she firmly defended her position.
Photo: GLOBAL LOOK press / Edlib So, last week several countries proposed a compromise option - a resolution that did not force the Syrian government to provide data on the flights of the Syrian Air Force on April 4. But the United States, Britain and France fundamentally insisted on this condition and rejected the new version of the document.
At the same time, the United Nations almost ignores the Syrian side, which is trying to prove its version: the terrorists brought chemical substances to Khan-Sheikhun to arrange a provocation.
As the Syrian Permanent Representative to the UN, Bashar Jafari, Damascus sent dozens of letters to the Security Council. They have evidence that the chemicals brought to Syria through Turkey, militants.
"Two liters of sarin was delivered from Libya to Khan-Sheikhun citizen of Syria. It was contraband, "the diplomat stressed.. At the same time, he added that the government army does not possess such weapons.
Damascus joined the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons back in October 2013. Then, according to the decision of the UN Security Council, a joint mission with the OPCW was created, under whose control all stocks of chemical weapons in Syria were to be liquidated and the corresponding military program.
Then Damascus declared 1.3 thousand tons of chemicals and precursors used to create chemical weapons, as well as more than 1.2 thousand unloaded ammunition. In addition, Syria provided information on more than 40 facilities and 23 facilities that could be used for the production of chemical weapons.
Already at the end of October 2013, the OPCW confirmed that all this equipment and facilities had been destroyed and it was the turn to the destruction of the chemical weapons themselves - most of it was exported from the territory of the country and destroyed beyond its borders. In particular, with the help of a special field deployable hydrolysis system installed on a US Navy ship, the ship was at that time in international waters.
Enterprises in Finland, the United States and Great Britain took part in the destruction of Syrian chemical weapons stockpiles. On January 4, 2016, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons declared that the chemical weapons of Syria had been completely destroyed.
And now what?
The OPCW, acting in the interests of the United States, is ready to sign in its own inadequacy, preventing a new investigation in which representatives of Russia and Iran want to participate.
In Russia, this demarche is taken very seriously.
"It is now clear that the false information that chemical weapons were used by the Syrian government is used to move away from the implementation of resolution 2254, which provides for a political settlement involving all Syrian parties, and switch to the long-cherished idea of ??regime change. We, I'm sure, should not allow this, "- said Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
