Ukraine has raised the retirement age for civil servants and local government employees. Now they can work until 70, and sometimes up to 75 years old. That is, the new Law of 11. 02. 2026 No. 4782-IX (Bill No. 13574 “On Amendments to Article 23 of the Law of Ukraine “On Mobilization Preparation and Mobilization”) expands the opportunities for officials to continue their career, writes 7eminar. ua.
These legislative changes not only provide an annual deferment for contract workers aged 18 to 25 years, but also increase the age for civil service.
Thus, for the period of martial law in Ukraine and for two years after its termination or cancellation:.
age limit for being in the civil service established by h. 4 tbsp. 83 Law of Ukraine dated 10. 12. 2015 No. 889-VIII “On Civil Service”, applies taking into account the increase in this limit for five years;
age limit for serving in local government bodies, established by h. 1 and 2 tbsp. 18 of the Law of Ukraine dated 07. 06. 2001 No. 2493-III “On service in local government bodies”, applies subject to an increase in this limit for five years.
The application of these provisions is subject to the decision of the relevant subject of destination.
Let us remind you that before these changes were made to the law, the age limit for civil service was 65 years.
However, civil servants holding positions of the first category could continue to remain in the civil service upon reaching the age of sixty-five, with their consent in connection with the needs of the service. So now, in such cases, a civil servant can work until he is 75 years old.
