High prices for greenhouse vegetables are observed in Ukraine. They are record highs for the last at least five seasons.. This was announced by expert on the agricultural market, coordinator of the EastFruit Weekly Ukraine project Alexander Khorev, writes Komersant Ukrainian.

According to Khorev, wholesale prices for cucumbers are 135-165 UAH per kilogram, depending on the variety, quality and batch size, and tomatoes - 120-140 UAH per kilogram.

“And I note that this is also a record for the last, at least, five seasons. For comparison, the average prices for tomatoes last year on this date were slightly below 100 UAH. And last year the price tags for cucumbers were 110 UAH. That is, an increase of approximately 25-30% per year,” he said.

The expert emphasized that as of the beginning of February 2026, prices for greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes increased rapidly. Thus, in supermarkets, according to the Ministry of Finance website, a kilogram costs from 180 to 219 UAH at retail. For meat you will have to pay a minimum of 232 UAH per kilogram of chicken fillet, 212 UAH per kilogram of pork (brisket).

According to Khorev, the reasons for the rise in prices of vegetables depend on the price of these products in the producing country. The bulk of greenhouse vegetables are mainly products produced in Turkey.

" And in Turkey itself there is also seasonality, and they are now experiencing a decrease in harvest volumes. And the shipments that they send not only to Ukraine, but also to all European countries and other countries, they are now smaller and their prices have increased,” he said.

He also noted that there remains stable demand for greenhouse vegetables throughout the winter.. If our supply decreases, then prices rise accordingly. According to Khorev, it is also necessary not to discard the factors of hryvnia devaluation.

" And to keep them at this level, we believe that this will happen in the coming weeks. We will watch, perhaps for a month, because the first greenhouse vegetables begin seasonally, perhaps with cucumbers, then there will be tomatoes, which will be harvested more en masse,” he added.

The expert noted that in Ukraine there are plants that operate on a constant basis, but given energy prices, these are very expensive products, and these greenhouse plants cannot guarantee large volumes for our domestic market.

“Therefore, we are already expecting larger wholesale quantities from March, starting from March, and in April, cucumbers and tomatoes from many plants will be supplied to the domestic market. This will relieve some tension from the market, and prices, as a rule, begin to sag in mid-spring,” he concluded.

Let us remind you that earlier in Ukraine one of the basic vegetables became more expensive.
