Since October last year, Russia has damaged 8.5 GW of Ukrainian energy generation, including thermal and hydroelectric power plants. To cover the current deficit, as well as restore damaged capacity, Ukraine needs $1 billion in assistance. This was announced by the Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Alexey Sobolev.
"
He noted that protecting damaged energy facilities would be much cheaper than restoring them. However, Ukraine lacks sufficient air defense capabilities for this.
To cover the energy deficit, the country is forced to import a record amount of electricity from Europe - 1.9 GW.
According to him, Ukraine needs to overcome the difficult part of this winter, and the reserves of necessary equipment have already been exhausted. He noted that assistance in the amount of about $1 billion is now urgently needed to restore generating capacities, purchase mobile substations, backup energy sources and other equipment.

Generators with a total capacity of more than 1 GW are already operating in Ukraine, helping to support business, but in severe frost conditions their quantity is not enough, so it is necessary to increase reserves.
It was reported that the regions of Europe were immediately becoming more active in order to provide assistance to Ukraine to change the legacy of the Russian winter terror. Significant support packages from ten regional partners have already been withdrawn.
