After the completion of the contract for the transit of Russian gas through the GTS of Ukraine on December 31, 2024. The situation in the energy market of Europe remains stable. However, Ukraine does not exclude the possibility of resuming gas transit, provided that it will not be Russian "
This was stated by the Minister of Energy German Galushchenko in an interview with the media. According to him, after the termination of cooperation with Gazprom, the Ukrainian GTS can serve the needs of European partners, but without the participation of the Russian Federation. " But Russian gas will not go to this pipe, ”the minister emphasized.
At the same time, while there are no specific proposals from other countries on the use of Ukrainian GTS for gas transportation. However, Ukraine is ready for negotiations with partners and discuss new supply routes. This initiative has already been discussed at the government level and can potentially become an important factor in reducing European dependence on Russian energy resources.
" We will consult. But it is very important that these conversations take place at a professional level, ”Galushchenko said.
Azerbaijan is actively expanding its export capabilities, in particular, through the Transanatolian gas pipeline (Tanap) and other routes that can connect with the Ukrainian GTS. This allowed Ukraine to maintain the status of a key gas transit in Europe without cooperating with Russia.
The stop of the transit of Russian gas caused an ambiguous reaction in the EU.
Some countries, in particular, Slovakia, have repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the decision of Ukraine. Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fitzo even threatened to stop gas transit to Ukraine and reduce the support of Ukrainian refugees.
He stated that the cessation of Russian gas transit will have a negative impact on the economy of Slovakia and other countries of Central Europe. Despite this, the European Union prepared in advance for changes in gas supplies and is gradually abandoning Russian energy resources.
