Uzhgorod Airport is the only Ukrainian airport that theoretically can resume work during the war due to proximity to the NATO border. Airports of Kyiv, Lviv and other cities are threatened by attacks after a short time of the flight of Russian missiles.

This was announced by the Air Expert, a leading researcher at the State Museum of Aviation Valery Romanenko in the media commentary. In the context of a full -scale war, Ukraine remains without civilian air messages. Since the beginning of Russia's invasion, all Ukrainian airports have been closed for passenger transportation due to a high level of threat. However, there is one among them, which, according to the expert, theoretically can resume work - Uzhgorod International Airport Airport.

According to Romanenko, the airport has a unique feature: its runway partially enters the territory of Slovakia, which is a member of NATO. This creates a potential restraining factor for Russia, since any blow to the airfield can hurt the airspace of the alliance.

Romanenko explains that the launch of any other Ukrainian airport is impossible due to the short fifth time of Russian missiles. For example, the dagger ballistic missile can fly to Lviv in 7-8 minutes, and to Kyiv even faster-in 5-6 minutes. This means that even if dispatchers have time to declare anxiety, passengers will not be able to evacuate safely. Given the chaotic nature of evacuation and potential panic moods, the use of Lviv airports, Kyiv and other cities is extremely risky.

Another important aspect - during the air attack of passengers, you need to not only evacuate from the plane, but also bring to safe shelter. And for this there is simply not enough time. Due to the unique location of the airport in Transcarpathia, there are discussions about the possible renewal of flights.

However, even in this case, significant security guarantees are required, because Russian troops can attack the critical infrastructure in the region, even if the airport remains under the protection of NATO.

Are there any real chances of renewal of air traffic depends on the situation at the front and international agreements. Ukraine seeks to resume full aviation after the completion of hostilities, but until that time any airport, except for Uzhgorod, remains vulnerable.
