Due to the undermining of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, the Dnieper river below Zaporozhye will cease to be navigable in the near future. Therefore, civilian ships from the Kakhovka reservoir will be relocated to Zaporozhye so that they do not remain aground, said the head of the Shipping Administration Yevhen Ignatenko.

" This is about 50 ships. Our task is to assist in ensuring their unimpeded relocation from their bases up the Dnieper through the Zaporizhia Gateway,"

According to his forecasts, the Dnieper River will remain navigable above the Dneproges, and not for a long time below.. He did not indicate how long he was talking about, but it is likely years until an alternative to the destroyed hydroelectric power station is built..

The Dnieper is the main artery of river navigation in Ukraine, the Kakhovka lock was the last one, it released all ships towards the sea.

" But now we've got problems upstream too. The water level in the Kakhovka reservoir drops by 10 cm every hour. Permissible level at the downstream of the Zaporizhzhya lock is 14 meters, today 16 meters were recorded in the morning.

Therefore, if the level falls below this mark, we will not be able to carry out locking in Zaporozhye,"

Recall that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Russian military, after the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, expelled people from the premises of their homes in the significantly flooded city of Golaya Pristan and placed their positions on the roofs. They also banned the evacuation from the village of Cossack camps.
