According to the monitoring data of the Association of Milk Producers, prices for cheese have increased significantly in the largest retail chains of the country over the past month..

Now cheeses in retail chains cost UAH 628.82 per kg on average and have risen in price by UAH 8.95 (31.1%) compared to April and by almost UAH 195.75 compared to May last year. Since the preliminary monitoring, the price has not decreased for any of the varieties of cheese, but has remained unchanged for Roquefort and amounted to UAH 1,597.32. per kg. Compared to May 2022, Roquefort increased by 629.31 (+39.4%).

The price for Cheddar cheese was 492.78 UAH/kg, for Edam – 407.60 UAH/kg and for Gouda – 511.64 UAH/kg. Over the past month, these cheeses have risen in price more than others.

The price of Cheddar cheese increased by UAH 17.52 (+3.6%) compared to April;

Edam - by UAH 13.13 (+3.2%);

Gouda - by UAH 15.85 (+3.1%);

\;

Mozzarella - by UAH 5.8 (+1.3%);

Emmenal by UAH 8.75 (+1.3%).

The price of drinking yogurt has also risen. Now it costs UAH 82.32 per kg, which is UAH 2.39 (+2.9%) more than in April. Over the year, yogurt has risen in price by UAH 10.18 (+12.4%).

Butter costs UAH 386.88 per kg and has risen in price by UAH 12.01 (+3.1%) since the April price monitoring. The product increased in price by UAH 43.94 (+11.4%) compared to May 2022.

The price of ultra-pasteurized drinking milk slightly increased as of May 1 and amounted to UAH 46.13 per kg, which is 70 kopecks (+1.5%) more than in April. But at the same time, milk with a fat content of 2.5% has fallen in price in supermarkets. The price of the product was UAH 39.12 per kg, which is 36 kopecks (-0.9%) less than in April, but by UAH 5.5 more than a year ago.

Giorgi Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Dairy Producers, suggested that the increase in prices for most dairy products may be due to food inflation..

According to preliminary data from the NBU, food inflation will remain high in 2023 due to the expected decline in yields and higher fuel prices in the second half of the year.. Inflationary pressure on business production costs persists due to difficulties in doing business and setting up supply chains in a war.

However, a significant increase in prices for dairy products in the future is unlikely due to relatively weak demand in the domestic market, a decrease in the number of consumers due to emigration and a decrease in the purchasing power of citizens and a decrease in their income in war conditions..

For two months of 2023, vegetables and fruits have risen in price in Ukraine. But, according to the expert, the dynamics of growth in consumer prices for food is gradually stabilizing..
