The construction of a new branch of the Kyiv metro could lose UAH 530 million of budget money due to a corruption scheme, the disclosure of which was reported by the National Police on December 23.

It was established that in 2018 the Kyiv Metro and the contractor entered into an agreement for UAH 5.9 billion, which was financed for UAH 4 billion. However, the planned work was completed only by 60%, the deadlines specified in the contract were violated, and the state of construction has not changed yet.. In October 2022, another UAH 530 million was transferred to the accounts of controlled enterprises as an advance payment for construction work, despite the fact that these enterprises did not have the appropriate qualified employees and their own special equipment, so law enforcement officers are investigating the fact of possible seizure and legalization of these funds by the organizers of the transaction.

On December 22, the police conducted about 30 searches at the addresses of the defendants. Financial and business documentation and electronic data carriers were confiscated.

To prevent other dubious transactions with budgetary funds, the State Financial Monitoring Service blocked UAH 160 million, which were on the accounts of enterprises involved in the illegal scheme.
