In 2023, the sown area under grain crops in Ukraine will amount to 8.7 million hectares, which is 22% less than in 2022 and 45% less than in pre-war 2021. It is reported by the Ukrainian club of agrarian business.

At the same time, Ukraine can expect other, more exhausting records for the land: the sown area under oilseeds is projected at 9.7 million hectares, which is 32% more than in 2022 and 9% more than in 2021.

This trend is explained by the fact that in 2022 the share of logistics in the price of grain crops increased significantly.

In addition, in 2022 in Ukraine there is a tendency to reduce the area under winter crops, caused by limited export opportunities, expensive logistics and a significant difference in prices in the regions..

In particular, regions near seaports and EU borders have a higher price for agricultural products than regions in the north and east of the country..

Overall, as of December 2022, out of 28.4 million. hectares of all sown areas that were cultivated in 2021 throughout the country, 24.6 million are located in the controlled territory of Ukraine. ha (86%), of which another 3.8 million. ha cannot be sown due to proximity to the front line, shell remnants, etc..

UCAB predicts that in 2023 the gross grain harvest could reach 34 million tons, which is 37% less than in 2022 and 60% less than in 2021.

The gross harvest of oilseeds is expected to reach 19.3 million tons, which is 13% more than in 2022 and 15% less than in 2021.

At the same time, due to a decrease in fertilizer application by 50-60%, significant unharvested areas of corn in the fields, lack of funding and the need for significant savings, the expected yield next year will decrease depending on the region and crop by 10-30% compared to.

Taking into account the projected gross production volumes and domestic needs of Ukraine, the export potential of grains and oilseeds in MY 2023/24 will be about 35 million tons or 3 million tons per month.

For comparison, in 2021/22 MY, the export potential was at the level of 85 million tons of grains and oilseeds, or 7 million tons per month.

Recall that most sunflower fields in Ukraine are cultivated without taking into account the rules of crop rotation, which destroys the quality of the soil..

In some areas, almost 70% of sunflower fields are sown two or more times in a row. The " ha), Kirovogradskaya (about 165.5 thousand. ha) and Mykolaiv region (over 151 thousand. ha). It's 33. 4, 23. 5 and 22. 3 percent relative to the total number of sunflower fields in these areas.

Crop rotation is a necessary seasonal change of crops on the field in order to minimize the negative anthropogenic impact on the land.
