Daniil Hetmantsev, Chairman of the Financial Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, spoke about the critical situation in the meat industry today during a meeting held with representatives of the Meat Industry Association as part of the work of the National Council for the Recovery of Ukraine from the consequences of the war, writes UNN.

Due to the full-scale invasion of Russian invaders into Ukraine, most of the large agricultural enterprises engaged in raising pigs and processing meat ended up in the combat zone and in the temporarily occupied territories.

According to the People's Deputy, the current situation undermines the foundations of Ukraine's national food security during the war.

Such large enterprises of the industry as APK-Invest, the Slobodskoy agricultural complex, the Myasnoy meat processing plant, the Saltovsky Meat Processing Plant, the East Ukrainian Meat Processing Plant and others found themselves in the combat zone and in the temporarily occupied territories..

All representatives of the Association were invited to submit professional proposals to solve the problem.

No plan for the operational reformatting of the industry, at least in a draft version, was outlined.

It is worth noting that the western and central regions of Ukraine are traditionally livestock breeding, but their potential due to low profitability, and even unprofitability, livestock breeding is practically not used.. Meat and dairy farming remain mainly the prerogative of household plots of rural residents, but the number of livestock in households is also declining..

According to the State Statistics Committee a year ago, as of April 1, 2021, the number of cattle in Ukraine amounted to 3.14 million. heads, which is 6.4% less than? same date 2020.

Dairy herd was at the level of 1.67 million? head of the total, which is 5.7% less than in the first quarter of 2020.

The number of cattle in agricultural enterprises in January-March 2021 decreased by 1.9%, compared to the same period in 2020 - to 1.01 million heads. Including the number of dairy cows decreased to 424.2 thousand. heads, which is 1.6% less than in the same period of 2020.

Household households during the first quarter of this year reduced the number of cattle by 8.4%, compared to the previous year - up to 2.13 million heads. Of these, 1.24 million heads were dairy cows, which is 7.1% less compared to the figure for January-March 2020.

The problem of unprofitable animal husbandry did not arise today or even in the current decade. However, no real steps were taken to solve it..

The war aggravated the problem to the extent of a catastrophe.
