At the beginning of the war, it was decided to liquidate two banks with Russian capital at once - MR Bank and Prominvestbank. Because of this, there were risks of a repeat bankrupt, but the mind of Ukrainians and trust in the system prevailed. Svetlana Rekrut, Managing Director of the Deposit Guarantee Fund for Individuals, spoke about this in a column for HB.

“When two banks were transferred to the management of the Fund on February 25, our team faced the number one task - to ensure timely and full payments of guaranteed compensation to their depositors. After all, it was an indicator of the ability of the guarantee system to respond to challenges. How difficult it was (in the conditions of the bombing of the capital, limited access to the central offices of these banks and the need to evacuate the Fund's employees from the hottest points of the suburbs of Kyiv at that time) I will leave out of brackets. It was hard for everyone. But finally, the Fund began paying guaranteed compensation to depositors of these banks even before the deadline stipulated by law. To date, depositors have already received more than 50% of the total guaranteed amount — more than UAH 570 million,” she said..

Recall that approximately two-thirds of Ukrainian banks report an increase in deposits of Ukrainian citizens. And this despite the fact that the size of the deposit rate since the beginning of the war in Ukraine has been decreasing by about 1% every month.. At the same time, the banks themselves now simply do not need depositors' money, since there is practically nowhere to invest them, writes in his article for ZN. UA “Deposits in times of war: why deposits in banks continue to grow despite meager rates” Artur Fedorchuk.
