Germany intends to stop importing oil from Russia by the end of 2022, even if the European Union fails to agree on an oil embargo, writes Bloomberg, citing sources in the German government.

Deals with alternative suppliers are progressing well, government says, and remaining logistical issues will take six to seven months to resolve. In particular, they are now looking for alternative sources of raw materials for a large oil refinery in the city of Schwedt, which supplies fuel to the airport and most of the filling stations in Berlin..

An embargo on Russian oil by the end of 2022 is expected in the sixth package of EU sanctions, which the head of the European Commission announced on May 4. Hungary, which is highly dependent on it, did not want to give up Russian oil.

Also, the refusal to import Russian oil would hit the economies of Slovakia and the Czech Republic hard.. In connection with such problems, the European Commission proposed to give these three countries more time to refuse: until 2024. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban proposed discussing the embargo at a summit of EU leaders scheduled for late May.
