The meeting of EU ambassadors in Brussels, which took place on May 11, once again ended without agreeing on the sixth package of sanctions against Russia, the main element of which is the embargo on oil imports. Hungary continues to block the sixth package of sanctions. First of all, Budapest requires Brussels to finance investments to disconnect from the Russian oil pipeline and connect to the Croatian.

Polish Ambassador to the EU Andrzej Sados again called for restrictions to be introduced as soon as possible and to stop buying not only oil, but also gas from the Russian Federation: “This is one of the elements necessary to stop the military machine.

We are talking about sanctions that are introduced in an emergency situation, during a war, these are not negotiations of a commercial nature.. All EU states bear the costs. I think that Poland is one of those countries that bear the biggest costs associated with the war in Ukraine.”.

According to the Polish Economic Institute, in the structure of EU oil imports, Russian “black gold” is about 29%. Therefore, the introduction of an embargo would mean a loss of $51 billion a year for Russia..
