At the next EU summit in Brussels, Poland will present a proposal to impose a tax on Russian raw materials, including energy. This was stated by the Minister of Climate and Environment of Poland Anna Moskva, writes Polish Radio..

The tax should convince the EU countries to accelerate the process of reducing dependence on Russian energy carriers.

" This will be a special fee, a tax, the amount of which depends on the degree of dependence on Russian raw materials. Most obviously, the tax will apply to different types of raw materials.. Such a step should motivate countries to revive the pace of reducing dependence on the Russian Federation,” she explained..

It is noted that the tax will cover all Russian raw materials: coal, gas, oil and other derivatives.. She added that the new tax will be modeled on a carbon trading system that serves to decarbonize the European economy..

Recall, on May 3, an extraordinary meeting of energy ministers of the European Union member states will begin in Brussels..

Politicians will discuss the sixth package of EU sanctions, which should include an embargo on Russian oil.

The GIPL gas pipeline began to operate between Poland and Lithuania, which is the interconnector of these two countries and actually provided the opportunity for further gas supplies between Eastern Europe and other Baltic countries. Serhiy Makogon, General Director of the GTS Operator of Ukraine, clarified that the expansion of fuel supply opportunities will also apply to Ukraine.
