Excavators and bulldozers are preparing a site for new construction on the outskirts of Beijing. True, they will not erect a residential quarter here, but a pig farm. This year, 11 such enterprises should appear at the entrances to the Chinese capital.

In the next two years, the national livestock of pigs is planned to increase by 200 million animals. So they are trying to cope with the chronic shortage of meat products in Beijing and other major cities. It caused the epidemic of African swine fever, which broke out in China at the end of 2018. As a result, about half of all pigs were exterminated..

This company plans to raise up to 60 thousand pigs per year.. On other similar farms, this figure will be even higher - up to 150 thousand pigs.

However, not all farms will be built from scratch.. At least six of them will appear on the site of existing farms.. They will simply be updated and modernized.

In 2019, due to inflation, pork prices in China rose to a record level. Now each province is obliged to ensure the production of a certain volume of this product..

Beijing, where more than 20 million people live, will have to grow 890 thousand pigs annually by 2022. This is three times more than what was grown in 2019.
