The first place in the supply of liquefied natural gas to Europe since November 2019 is held by the United States, although by the end of the year they were third. This data is provided by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) of the US Department of Energy.

New projects allowed American suppliers to actually capture Europe’s gas market in 2020. In February, they were almost twice as fast as Qatar coming in second.

American imports this month rose to 107 thousand tons of LNG per day. At the same time, back in January, when Gazprom’s total deliveries abroad fell by 11 percent and its export revenues collapsed immediately by 41 percent, Europe bought for the first time as much LNG as Russian pipeline gas.

Nevertheless, in the coming months, American LNG suppliers will experience problems due to lower demand in Europe and falling costs to multi-year lows.. Spot price on Dutch TTF hub drops below $ 100 per thousand cubic meters.

In addition to the shutdown of a number of industries due to the coronavirus epidemic, the record volume of accumulated reserves also affects interest in gas. As of March 1, European vaults are 60 percent full. These circumstances may slow the launch of new American projects, and existing plants will force to reduce production.
