The Swiss Federal Attorney's Office conducts an investigation into the criminal case of two Russian citizens suspected of involvement in cyberattack at the European headquarters of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in Lausanne. As representatives of the Public Prosecutor's Office in Berne reported on Monday, September 17, the case on suspicion of espionage for political purposes was opened as early as March 2017.

Russians are also accused of trying to obtain data from the laboratory of radiological and chemical-bacteriological analysis in the Swiss city of Spiez. It among other things helps to investigate the chemical attacks in Syria and the poisoning of Sergei and Julia the Violins in the British Salisbury.

The Swiss Federal Intelligence Service earlier confirmed the fact of cyberattacks, noting that criminals did not achieve their goals.

After the detention in the spring of 2018 in The Hague, Russian spies were deported to the Russian Federation. The discovery of agents was the result of a joint operation of the secret services of the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. At the same time, it remains unclear why the Russians were released and not brought to trial in the Netherlands.
