Russian authorities are increasingly clearly pursuing a policy of replacing the "evergreen", since they have no illusions about establishing relations with the West in the foreseeable future. To this conclusion came the newspaper Die Welt. The author of the publication drew attention to the fact that Russia is actively increasing purchases of gold. In July of this year, the gold and foreign exchange reserves of the Russian Federation have replenished with a record volume since November last year - 26.1 tons. In general, over the past 10 years, the country's gold reserves have increased from 457 to 1.944 thousand tons, and now it ranks fifth in this indicator, leaving behind even China. In addition, the newspaper notes, Moscow sold most of the debt securities of the Federal Treasury. Thus, it wants to save the national economy from dependence on the dollar in the conditions of the sanctions war. According to the American expert James Rajkards, the president of Russia Vladimir Putin "has a plan". Gold is an ideal way to protect against currency fluctuations associated with the introduction of sanctions. "The Russian president is buying gold, because the dollar is used as a weapon against Russia," the expert explained.. Professor of Finance at Johns Hopkins University, Steve Banke also explained the actions of Russia as an attempt to get out of the influence of the dollar. As Russia is compelled to withstand financial sanctions that endanger national security, gold becomes an ideal means of insuring its own currency.

"Gold is not issued by the state and, therefore, does not lead to any political threats," the Bank said.. The professor recalled the prediction of the Nobel Prize winner Bob Mundell, who 20 years ago said that gold would play a more significant role in the international monetary system in the 21st century. According to the Bank, this prediction may well become a reality, given that US President Donald Trump increasingly uses the dollar as a weapon against other states.
