"Today, the Court of Appeal of Svea County (Sweden) decided to keep its order of June 13, 2018 on suspending the enforcement of the Stockholm Arbitration Award of February 28, 2018 between Gazprom and Naftogaz of Ukraine under a contract for the transit of gas through territory of Ukraine, "the Russian concern said, writes Kommersant. en ". It is specified that the attempt of the Ukrainian company to appeal the decision has not yielded results, which undoubtedly strengthens the positions of the second party. She, in turn, is not in a hurry to pay billions of dollars without a "verdict" of the appellate instance, which may take several years. After all, the guarantees that Naftogaz will return the money if the dispute is lost, no, explained in the gas monopoly, stressing that they will continue to defend their legal rights.

The risk of revision of the arbitration decision pushed the Ukrainians to arrest the European assets of the Russian company in their favor. In May, shares of Gazprom's subsidiaries in Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom were frozen. Recall, the Russian concern decided to terminate all existing contracts with the Ukrainian side after the Stockholm Arbitration took the side of Kiev, obliging Gazprom to pay about $ 2.6 billion for gas shortage under the transit agreement.
