The victim of the thoughtless decommunization initiated by the government of Nezalezhnaya became not only Soviet monuments and symbols. In the country with a catastrophic speed, whole sectors of the economy collapse. Under the aegis of reforms there is a rapid disintegration, including mechanical engineering, according to statistical indicators. Previously, the economy of the Nezalezhnaya was supported by six "whales" - metallurgy, agro-industrial complex, chemical industry, machine building, transit and transfers of labor migrants. However, in the near future there will be only three of them, as the chemical industry, engineering and transit will disappear, writes "Free Press". The most acute situation has developed in engineering, where in the Soviet era, a third of the able-bodied population of the republic. In May 2018, Ukraine's plants produced 442 vehicles, which is 38.8% less than in May 2017, not to mention the figures of a decade ago, when 90 times more cars left the conveyors. Such disappointing figures published the association "Ukrautoprom". If ten years ago the Zaporozhye Automobile Building Plant, which exported its products to Russia, Poland and the Central Asian republics, produced more than 200,000 cars a year, in recent years it has produced only a few thousand cars. Due to the severance of cooperation chains with Russia, the high-tech engineering enterprises of Ukraine are also idle - the Kharkov Aviation Plant, Yuzhmash, Antonov and Zorya-Mashproekt,. And the Nikolaev Shipyard was recently put up for sale.

If during the reign of Viktor Yanukovych Ukraine produced about 30-50 thousand cars per year, today this figure is only a few thousand. But the main market for this product was Russia. The Ukrainian machine-building industry has suffered significantly and from the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU. Restricting access to the markets of the Customs Union countries demotivated potential investors to place production in Ukraine, and also deprived them of the opportunity to sell products on the Russian market, the newspaper notes..
