The absolute zeroing of customs duties on European metals intends to seek from the US Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel. In her opinion, Washington's demands are unjustified, therefore they should be completely abolished. In March, the head of the White House, Donald Trump, signed a decree imposing duties on imports of aluminum and steel. He then noted that the document does not apply to Canada and Mexico. For the rest, a single tariff was imposed - 25% of additional customs duties on imported steel and 10% on aluminum. In Europe, China and Russia were extremely outraged by such protectionist measures, deciding to seek justice through the institutions of the WTO. However, in response to protests from the EU, the US administration announced on March 22 that the decree regarding import metal from the European Union, Australia, Argentina, Brazil and South Korea was suspended until June 1, 2018. However, Merkel did not arrange temporary measures. She stated that she wants permanent guarantees. So now she is gathering allies around her, in particular, she is seeking agreement on this issue with Paris. "Until now, we had a very common position, namely, we view these tariff requirements as unfounded," - leads the words of Chancellor Deutsche Welle. Meanwhile, the alliance of Berlin and Paris is not as strong as the Germans would like, since the French agree with the Americans that there is an excess of metals in the market and something must be done about it. Though against the raised duties France, naturally, objects. It is known that Merkel raised this topic in a conversation with Trump during a brief visit to Washington last week. Apparently, she was not able to achieve encouraging assurances from the American side.
