The Ukrainian economy lost almost $ 100 billion because of the armed conflict in the Donbass and the entry of the Crimea into the Russian Federation. This is stated in the report of Anders Aslund, senior researcher of the Eurasian Center of the Atlantic Council. In his opinion, in order to find out how much Kiev lost in money terms in 2014 due to the events in the rebel mining region and the loss of the peninsula that did not accept the Maidan, it is necessary to estimate the country's GDP losses. As noted in the report, the Donbass share in the economy of Nezalezhnaya was 10%, and the Crimea - 3.7%. The International Monetary Fund estimates the Ukrainian GDP in 2013, before the "revolution of hydrology", at the level of $ 179.6 billion. "Thus, the total value of assets of the Crimea and the Donbass is 13.7% of $ 179.6 billion - or $ 98.4 billion when multiplied by four (t. 4 years since the beginning of the conflict in the east of Ukraine and the referendum in Crimea on joining the Russian Federation - Ed.. ) ", - is stated in the study. The main damage to the Ukrainian economy was caused by the loss of land, energy resources, enterprises, infrastructure, including banking.

"The economic and humanitarian situation in the Donbas is terrible and in stark contrast to the situation in the Crimea," the document says..

The war in the mining area caused significant destruction of infrastructure in 2014. The economic benefits fell sharply by about two-thirds. In addition, according to Aslund, the economy of the country was influenced by the sanctions imposed by Moscow on Ukraine. Recall that in December last year, the National Bank said that in 2017 from the cessation of trade with the uncontrolled territories of Donbass, the state was missing $ 1.8 billion. According to the estimator of the regulator, in 2018 losses will amount to $ 500 million.
