As informs Jane's, now the company finishes assemblage of the first flight sample of the plane which flight tests are planned to begin in the end of 2018.
L-39NG performed its first flight in September 2015. It was based on one of the old L-39 company Aero Vodochody. The aircraft received a composite wing and lost additional fuel tanks, which at the base Albatros were located on the wing tips. In addition, instead of the Soviet jet engine AI-25TL on the L-39NG put modernized American FJ44-4M.
Nevertheless, the airplane that had risen in the air in 2015 was made on the basis of the old L-39 airframe using a number of old systems. The development of a completely new airframe for the L-39NG was carried out by Aero Vodochody from the middle of 2016. The development of a new glider was needed in order to make the design of the aircraft more adapted to the changes made.
The upgraded aircraft received, among other things, the new avionics radio equipment of Genesys Aerosystems and the indicator on the windshield Speel Praha. In total, the L-39NG received more than 800 new nodes, aggregates and systems.
The length of the L-39NG is 12 meters, and the wing span is 9.6 meters. The maximum take-off weight of the training aircraft is 5.8 tons.
Albatros can develop a speed of up to 775 kilometers per hour and perform flights for a distance of up to 2.6 thousand kilometers. The aircraft is equipped with five suspension points for various types of weapons with a total mass of up to 1.2 tons.
L-39 was the main training aircraft of the Warsaw Treaty countries. Since the release of these "flying dicks" was collected about three thousand aircraft. L-39 was traditionally used for training pilots of the USSR Air Force.
