The renewable sources accounted for 20.6% of all electricity, and coal - 19.7%. The same amount of energy was received using natural gas, and 10.9% - with hydropower, according to a joint report of the profile centers Sandbag and Agora Energiewende.

Most of all, the growth of energy from renewable sources was influenced by the UK and Germany - they accounted for 56% of the growth of renewable electricity generation in the whole of the European Union. And coal is still used a lot in Eastern Europe, notes EuroPulse.

At the same time, as noted in the report, hydrocarbon emissions in the EU are growing. However, this is mainly due to industrial production, and not to electricity generation. The greenhouse gas emissions in the EU should be reduced by 40% by 2030 compared to 1990.
