Ukraine joined the extension of EU sanctions against Russia

Ukraine joined the decision to extend for half a year the sanctions of the EU Council against Russia for destabilizing the situation in the country. This is reported on the website of the Council of the EU.

Together with Ukraine, Montenegro, Albania and Norway joined the decision, notes 112.

As reported, on December 21, 2017, the Council of the European Union extended economic sanctions against the Russian Federation until July 31, 2018. Such a decision was made after French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel informed the EU of the failure of the Minsk agreements by Russia.



These sanctions limit access to the primary and secondary capital market of the EU for 5 Russian financial institutions with a majority stake in the authorized capital and their subsidiaries that operate outside the EU, as well as for 3 large Russian energy companies and 3 defense firms. Also, a ban on the export and import of weapons, on exports to Russia of dual-use goods for military purposes or for the Russian army.

In addition, Russia restricts access to certain technologies and services for oil development and production.
