So, a new excise duty on cognac imports will amount to almost 127 hryvnias per 100 percent alcohol. Thus, the price of liquor and cognac products in February may rise by a third.

At the same time, excises for other types of alcoholic beverages remained at the level of 2017. Experts of the Ministry of Economic Development argue that the government's policy aimed at increasing import charges only leads to the emergence of an uncontrolled market for surrogate and contraband alcohol. The current market for alcoholic beverages in the country is up to 60 percent.
