The budget provides for 6.1 billion hryvnia, while last year it was 4.7 billion hryvnia. According to the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, this was stated by the head of the department Lilia Grinevich.

According to her, the funding of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine has also increased significantly - by more than 38%, while funds for university science have increased by only 12.3%.

In 2017, we were able to exit the dramatic decline in funding for science, which reached a minimum in 2016 and amounted to 0.16% of GDP from the state budget.

At the same time, she noted that today the main funding for science goes to the National Academy of Sciences, which is completely independent of the ministry and manages its budget independently. So, in 2017, the NASU had 2.7 billion hryvnia, and the funding for science, which is managed by the ministry, was only 621.5 million hryvnia.

University science, for which the responsible ministry, receives only 10% of the total amount of finance for science, - explained Grinevich, adding that an important innovation in the budget for 2018 is that a new program "Supporting the Development of Priority Research Areas," on which provides 500 million hryvnia.

Recall, as reported URA-Inform, from the state budget in 2018, more than 1.72 billion hryvnia will be allocated for the construction and purchase of housing for servicemen and law enforcement officials.
