In the opinion of the Federal Council, such a decision is justified, since its purpose has not yet been fully achieved, and the legal conditions for its extension remain in force.
This is stated in a report published on the website of the Federal Council of Switzerland on Wednesday, December 20.
According to the report, the freeze is extended for another year and, in the opinion of the council, this will lead to tangible progress in the proceedings and will increase the likelihood of asset return to the country of origin.
A similar decision was also made today with regard to the former President of Tunisia Ben Ali. His assets were frozen in 2011. The department notes that the purpose of this decision is to support judicial cooperation between Switzerland and these two states.
Recall, as reported URA-Inform, in October, Yanukovych lost in the European Court of Appeal on the decision to freeze assets.
