In Poland are going to gradually give up trading on Sundays. For the liquidation of Sunday trade on Friday evening, December 15, the Senate of Poland voted, KAN reported.. Earlier, the bill was approved by the lower house of the Polish parliament - the Saeima. The procedure will be carried out in three stages.
Since March 1, 2018, shopping centers and supermarkets will be allowed to work only on the first and last Sunday of the month. Further, starting from January 2019, trade will be allowed only on the last Sunday of the month. At the last stage in 2020, Sunday trading should be completely banned. As an exception, the shops will be allowed to work four Sundays in the year, as well as before Christmas and Easter. Now shopping malls and supermarkets in Poland remain closed only on official holidays.
The Catholic Church, which, together with the Solidarity trade union, initiated the adoption of a new law, believes that the government took insufficient measures to liquidate Sunday's trade in Poland. "This is a step in the right direction, but the church does not consider it satisfactory.
Every Sunday should be a non-working day, "- said Archbishop Victor Skvozh of Katowice.
"Solidarity" also criticized the new law. According to representatives of the trade union, it is not sufficiently developed, because online stores on Sundays will still be able to sell goods. In addition, small family businesses, souvenir shops, refueling stations, as well as shops at railway stations and airports will be able to trade.. The liberal opposition, in turn, criticized the fact that the adoption of the law may reduce the number of jobs.
