As explained by the Ambassador of Ukraine in Australia, Nikolai Kulinich, this is not the result of pressure, but the continuation of the systemic approach, the understanding that Russian politics poses a threat to the whole world, including for Australia.

According to the government decision, the effect of Australia's financial restrictions against citizens and enterprises of Russia, the occupied Crimea and representatives of the so-called republics was extended for the next three years or until Russia fulfilled its obligations under the Minsk agreements.

In total, 48 enterprises and 153 persons fall under the restrictive measures of the Australian government, that is, compared to 2014, when sanctions were introduced for the first time, financial constraints will affect an additional 42 people and 12 companies. Three people who died between 2014 and 2017 were expelled from the lists.

Australia approved the first sanctions against Russia in June 2014, in September of the same year they were deepened. Unlike the EU, the review period for sanctions in Australia covers three years.

Recall, as reported URA-Inform, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson believes that Russia violates the treaty on the elimination of medium-range and shorter-range missiles. He assures that Russia behaves as if it has forgotten its own obligations, and this undermines the guarantees of world security.
