EU ambassadors agreed on trade preferences for Ukraine

The Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU Member States has agreed on preliminary agreements on trade preferences for Ukraine.

Relevant agreements were reached in the framework of inter-institutional negotiations with the Council of the European Union and the European Commission on trade preferences for Ukraine, UNIAN reports..

Earlier, the compromise option of preferences was supported on June 20 by the Committee of the European Parliament on International Trade. Now the decision should be approved by the European Parliament at the plenary session in July and the EU Council.

It is noted that quotas for tomatoes, wheat, corn and honey will be increased, but not in the same volume as previously proposed by the European Commission, urea from the proposals is excluded.

It is reported that the following annual quotas were established: for honey - 2,5 thousand tons, tomatoes processed - 3 thousand tons, wheat - 65 thousand tons, maize - 625 thousand tons, barley - 325 thousand tons.

Preferences will be introduced for up to three years, they will complement the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement.

Recall, the European Parliament's Committee for International Trade approved the preliminary agreements on trade preferences for Ukraine. That is, agreements to increase tariff quotas for honey, corn, barley, oats, cereals and processed grains, grape juice from Ukraine.

At the same time, the deputies did not support the proposal to raise quotas for Ukrainian wheat, tomatoes and urea.

As reported, following the results of the first quarter of 2017, Ukraine has fully selected annual quotas for duty-free exports to the EU for six categories of goods: honey, sugar, cereals and flour, processed tomatoes, grape and apple juice, corn.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Ukraine has entered the top 3 countries of the largest exporters of agricultural products to the market of the European Union.
