The Ministry of Transport of Russia conceived to deprive air travelers of international flights of the opportunity to drink on board. The agency is working out a rule on the prohibition to bring alcohol to the plane, purchased in the stores duti free, said in an interview with NTV, the head of the department Maxim Sokolov.
The issue was on the agenda after numerous high-profile cases of drunken debauchery of passengers during air travel. A week ago, for the first time a criminal case was brought against one of these hooligans who, during a flight on the Tel Aviv-Moscow route, being fundamentally drunk, swearing and tried to open the door to get out of the plane right in the air. Another "tourist" who had done the same thing in a similar situation at the New Delhi checkpoint, was fined by the decision of an Indian court for an amount of about 44,000 rubles. And there are many similar cases.
Whether to force air passengers to hand over alcohol purchased in duty-free shops, the Ministry of Transport intends to discuss with experts, since this can have a significant impact on airport business.
"As for putting into the luggage of alcoholic products, which are purchased by passengers in duty free shops, then we have to weigh everything further.
The activities of duty free shops, as a rule, affect the financial model of the airports themselves, and investors investing in the development of the airport infrastructure of our country or any other, of course, rely on incomes from duty free shops, "said the minister..
There is a risk that the turnover of duty-free shops will decrease, which will affect the investment attractiveness of airports, and this will mean that in our country fewer modern aircraft will be built, Sokolov said..
As for the responsibility of the airboaders, the bill that regulates it is now under consideration in the State Duma.
