The Committee of the European Parliament did not support the increase in quotas for Ukrainian wheat and tomatoes

The European Parliament's International Trade Committee voted against increasing quotas for imports of Ukrainian wheat, tomatoes and urea.

The relevant resolution was supported by 31 committee members, four - voted against, three abstained.

"The EU should offer further trade preferences to Ukraine, but some agricultural products do not need additional EU support," the press release issued by the press service of the European Parliament on Thursday, May 4.

The European Parliament stressed that the quotas are aimed at supporting Ukrainian producers and intensifying economic relations between Ukraine and the EU countries.

"The European Parliament actively supports the ongoing reforms in Ukraine. Providing temporary trade preferences, we want to support small and medium-sized producers and provide the necessary impetus for increasing trade flows. These events have for Ukraine not only economic, but also political value, "- said the reporter on the issue of quotas for Ukrainian agricultural products Yaroslav Vales.

This issue will be submitted for consideration by the European Parliament in May.

As reported, following the results of the first quarter of 2017, Ukraine has fully selected annual quotas for duty-free exports to the EU for six categories of goods:

honey, sugar, cereals and flour, processed tomatoes, grape and apple juice, corn.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Ukraine has entered the top 3 countries of the largest exporters of agricultural products to the market of the European Union.

According to the estimates of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, the export of Ukrainian agrarian products to the EU countries in 2016 increased by almost 1.6% compared to 2015 and amounted to $ 4 billion 242.4 million.
