Countries of the Eurasian Economic Union will impose import duties on oranges, dates, pistachios, raisins and Brussels sprouts. First of all, it will hit Turkey - one of the largest suppliers of oranges to the Russian market. For the rest of the products, supplies from Turkey, as well as from other countries, are several times less.
In the annex to the draft decision of the Eurasian Economic Commission it is said that it is proposed to introduce a 5% duty for oranges, raisins, pistachios and dates. And for Brussels sprouts - 13%, clarify the "Izvestia".
In addition, the oranges will set a minimum price. The decision is coordinated, and on April 27 it must be accepted.
Since January 2, suppliers imported oranges to the countries of the EAEC duty-free, it was to last until the end of the year. For the rest of these products, from late April last year, lower duties have been introduced, and they will be raised until the end of May 2019.. At first we did not intend to.
First of all, the increase in import duties will affect Turkish suppliers. From 1 January to 9 October 2016. There was a ban on the supply of citrus to Russia from Turkey, and in the last three months of last year, Turkey was able to send oranges to Russia for $ 47 million. And Egypt at the same time put oranges at only $ 8.6 million, but by the end of the year it became the largest supplier to our country.
And most other products are led by Iran. Last year, the Russian market received dates from this country for $ 7.7 million, pistachios - $ 17.6 million and for the same amount - raisins. Deliveries of Brussels sprouts are insignificant - their amount was $ 113 thousand.
At the same time, negotiations are being held with Egypt and Iran on duty-free trade regime, said Veronika Nikishina, member of the Board (Minister) for Trade of ECE.
If Egypt gets preferences for the supply of oranges to the Russian market, it will put pressure on Turkish exporters, because Egyptian suppliers will get an advantage in price. However, due to the introduction of duties in the near future, prices for oranges may rise, warned the president of the National Fruit and Vegetable Union Sergey Korolyov.
And will pay for it, most likely, the consumer, he added.
In the Ministry of Agriculture until the situation is not commented on.
Veronica Nikishina explained that earlier import duty rates were lowered due to a lack of goods in the domestic market, for now the need for this has disappeared.
