American couple David and Chalom Levitt spent ?1.25 million on the castle. When the couple found out that it stood on a rotten foundation, they could not get over the shock and disappointment for a long time.. The Daily Record writes about this.

The Levitts moved from Utah (USA) to Argyll (UK), purchasing the 175-year-old Knockderry Castle there. The new owners began restoring the historic landmark, which features four reception rooms and views of Long Lake, in 2023, but only realized how close to disrepair their property had fallen in the process..

" Except maybe for the attic, because the renovations there have already been completed and we can go there to admire what the rest of the castle will look like one day. To be honest, I had no idea how close it was to complete destruction.. It would be nice if it stood for another five years,” says David.

The local council approved the couple's plans to carry out restoration work on the castle grounds in January last year. Now the new owners are seeking to restore the building to its former glory, preserving the original features, such as gables, towers, stone balustrades, period fireplaces and stained glass windows..

The Levites document all stages of renovation on Instagram, where they are followed by an audience of millions.

By the way, this castle previously belonged to businesswoman Marian Van Overwele, who went bankrupt in 2000 and, after a grueling 22-year legal battle, finally lost ownership in 2022.

Let's remember that Focus previously wrote about 76-year-old Lord Gregorius, who built the five-story Olt Stoutenburght Castle in the backyard of his plot of land in the tiny village of Blesdijke in the northern Netherlands. To realize this incredible idea, which arose back in 1990, the man spent 34 years of his life.

In addition, Wayne and Natalie Noakes from the New Forest in the UK will be forced to demolish their ?100,000 house despite having the necessary planning permissions.. The cause of the dispute was the land plot on which the extension is located.
